Princess Drive-In
The Princess Drive-In, built some time in the 1940s. Up until the late 50s or so, THE PLACE to hang. In the last 15 years, it has been opened and closed by many owners.
No one seems to know who designed and built the sign. But it’s so iconic, it has endured all the travails of the property.
“Famous for Tacos” — when you whipped-in with your ’55 Chevy, it was tacos and a coke — not burgers. And maybe a little backseat bingo.

does anyone have a picture of the old Shamrock Drive-In? It was owned by Hobb Lucero and was popular in the 50’sand 60’s.

It appears the old Princess may be dead this time. A few weeks back we noticed it was deserted. Back in ’66-67 we’d drive down Main St. (before they destroyed it to make the downtown mall) to the Princess in our ’55 Ford to get burgers and onion rings. We actually never tried the tacos, even though they were famous.
Now that they are making Main Street back into a street again, maybe somebody will bring the Princess back to life!

This was one of the best places in Cruces. Unfortunently, the owner who had it for decades closed shop in 2011 I believe it was. I don’t know her name or what happened to her. She had the most reasonable prices around, and those tacos were awesome.
If anyone knows how she made her taco meat please share!
